Question 1: What weaknesses do you have?

[SITUATION] / [TASK] Public speaking does not come naturally to me so I would describe it as a point for improvement. [ACTION] I have however taken steps to improve this and have got significantly better over the last 2 years. I have attended training events and also put myself forward for tasks where it will be required. [RESULT] This has improved my confidence and I am now much better that when I first stated in my previous role.

Question 2: If successful in the job what will you training needs be?

I feel confident that I have the skills for the job however I am always looking to develop and I feel like it wold benefit the company if I was to have additional _________ training. This would build on my existing good level of skills and allow me to bring newly developed skills to my role to benefit the business

Question 3: What are your training expectations?

I feel confident that I have the skills of the job however in order to continually develop my skills to bring benefit to the organisation I would expect to have appropriate training on any procedures and processes unique to the organisation. This will ensure that I am compliant with procedures and allow me to perform the job to the best of my ability. I am a quick learner and have experience in quickly putting learning into practice.

The STAR Technique involves constructing your answer in the following way:


Set the context of your answer. Tell the panel, where, when and why this situation came to be. For example, “Whilst working in my current role, we were holding an event in which 100 plus people were due to attend any minute. That’s when I was notified the caterers weren’t able to make it.”


What did you have to do. For example, “I had to organise alternative caterers and without the guests knowing. The failure of the event would have been a disaster for the company.”


What did you actually do. For example, “I spoke to the venue owner and we identified other caterers who may be able to help at short notice. I contacted all of them and identified one who could cater the event albeit one hour later than planned.”


How did the situation play out. For example, “Catering was provided in line with guest expectations. The evening, after this initial hiccup, went seamlessly. I was congratulated by the senior managers for sorting out what could have been a catastrophe.”

Constructing your answers in this way will ensure you fully address the question / scenario given and the criteria the panel are measuring you against.
